What an electrocardiogram records
An electrocardiogram records the heart’s electrical signals and can provide information about heart rate and rhythm. Results are interpreted together with symptoms, medical history, and other clinical evaluations.

What happens during an EKG/ECG
A resting electrocardiogram usually takes only a few minutes and captures a short snapshot of the heart’s activity.
Small sensors are placed on the chest and limbs. The equipment records signals; it does not send electricity into the body.
The tracing shows rate, rhythm, and signal timing, but it is interpreted together with symptoms, history, and other tests.
